blog 7 1 - Practical Beekeeping

Read to learn beekeeping.

Watching bee videos is another way to study beekeeping.

There are articles and bee farming PDFs available from www.practicalbeekeeping.com/shop via our bee newsletters, blog posts and bee ebooks about making money with bees and bee business opportunities.

Reading something everyday about bees provides food for your passion and grows your knowledge. It will also encourage more questions about your bees. I had so much to learn bee farming when I first started. I still discover something everyday even after a decade of keeping bees.

It was a passionate journey. I was mentored by older, more experienced beekeepers in my first couple of years. I read some more. I had more questions. I practiced more bee skills. I studied again. I did more beekeeping. I’m still learning bees after seventeen years.

The study of bees is wide and deep:

  • queen-making
  • splitting bee hives
  • botany and bee friendly plants
  • pollination using bees
  • harvesting honey
  • honey processing
  • bottling honey
  • selling honey
  • bee removals
  • brood maintenance
  • hive management
  • pest management
  • hive security and safety
  • more…
Only two universities offer a master’s degree in beekeeping study around the world: Germany and USA.
